PRGF Therapy
Plasma rich in growth factors, prepared from your own blood for selected conditions.
Understanding PRGF
Plasma rich in growth factors is a blood-derived preparation used in selected musculoskeletal conditions. It is intended to support biological repair processes. Evidence depends on the condition and preparation used; it is not a proven cure for all joint or tendon problems and cannot guarantee cartilage regrowth.
What to expect
A small blood sample is processed to prepare a plasma fraction, which is then injected into the area selected by the clinician. Suitability, alternatives, the proposed number of treatments and costs should be discussed before proceeding. PRGF and other platelet-derived preparations are not necessarily identical.
Recovery and limitations
Temporary soreness or swelling may occur. Follow the clinician's advice on activity, medicines and rehabilitation. Results vary and some patients may have no improvement. Using your own blood does not remove all risks: infection, bleeding and pain remain possible. Discuss the strength of the evidence for your particular diagnosis before choosing treatment.
